How the fees work
Etsy fees for UK sellers
- Listing fee: $0.20 per listing, charged again each time an item sells (about £0.15).
- Transaction fee: 6.5% of the item price plus the postage and gift wrap you charge.
- Payment processing: 4% + 20p on the full order total.
- Regulatory operating fee: 0.48% of the item price plus postage. Etsy raised this from 0.32% in June 2026.
- Offsite Ads: 15% (or 12% once your shop has sold $10,000 in a year) of orders that come from Etsy's ads on other sites, capped at $100 an order.
- VAT: Etsy adds 20% VAT to its fees for UK sellers.
eBay fees for UK business sellers
- Final value fee: a percentage of the total sale including postage. It depends on the category, from 6.9% to 14.9%; most categories are 9.9% to 12.9%.
- Per-order fee: 30p on orders of £10 or less, 40p above that.
- Regulatory operating fee: 0.35% of the total sale.
- Promoted Listings: the ad rate you choose, only if you promote the listing.
- VAT: eBay's fees are shown before VAT; 20% VAT is added.

VAT, briefly
If you're not VAT registered, the VAT on marketplace fees is a cost you can't get back, so the calculator adds it to your fees. If you are VAT registered, you owe VAT on each sale but can reclaim the VAT on fees, so the calculator takes the VAT out of your sale and leaves it off your fees.
What the calculator assumes
- One item per order, listed in pounds sterling. Listing in another currency adds Etsy's 2.5% conversion fee.
- Etsy's dollar fees are converted at about $1 = £0.75.
- No Etsy Ads, Etsy Plus or eBay Shop subscription costs. Those are monthly, not per order.
