Why I Built Etsy Integration
It didn't start as a product — it started as my own store's problem.
The Problem
I run blueprint3d.co.uk, where roughly 95% of sales come through Etsy. Every product change meant doing the same work twice — once on the Magento website, once on the Etsy listing — and I was keeping a spreadsheet just to track what still needed updating where.
That would have been manageable if the catalogue stayed still, but it didn't. I was actively trying to grow what started as a hobby into a proper business, so the offering was changing almost daily. On top of the double-entry, I also wanted the website to always undercut the Etsy listing price, which meant manually recalculating a surcharge on every single Etsy listing too.
Product variations made it worse. Before I built Shared Product Options, I was managing hundreds of variations directly on each product — and Magento's native custom options had an infuriating habit of clearing the entire option table the moment you added a new one. Updating a single product could mean rebuilding all of its options from scratch.
The Solution
Etsy Integration exists to remove exactly that manual work:
- Syncs product changes to Etsy automatically, so there's no second place to update by hand.
- Applies a surcharge — percentage or fixed amount — to Etsy listings automatically, keeping the website reliably cheaper without manual recalculation.
- Keeps product images in sync across both platforms.
It grew feature by feature from there, largely driven by whatever Etsy itself changed or added next. And once Shared Product Options existed alongside it, the variations problem disappeared too — option groups are managed centrally instead of being rebuilt per product.
The Result
These days my actual job is just adding new products to the website — the modules handle keeping Etsy in sync, applying the surcharge, and managing variations. What used to eat hours of manual double-entry now runs quietly in the background, which leaves a lot more time for actually designing products, building out BluePrint3D's other modules, and working through the household to-do list that's been waiting a while.
